China August New Energy Passenger Vehicle Sales soaring 72% year on year to 52,744 units
Data released by China Passenger Car Association showed China new energy passenger vehicle sales was 52,744 units in August, with a year-on-year increase of 72 percent and month-on-month growth of 22 percent. In the first eight months of this year, China new energy vehicle sales reached 254,127 units. Even though the segment recovered bit by bit, the volume is still very far from the annual sales target.
In August, BEV sales reached 42,139 units with a 89% year-on-year growth, which accounted for 79.89% of the total volume. In all the BEV sales, the sales of A00 segment soared 138 percent to 24,000 units, which accounted for 57 percent of the entire BEV sales.In the same month, the sales of PHEV achieved 29% year-on-year growth and reached 10,605 units, which is 20.11% of new energy passenger vehicle total sales.
According to Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, economical new energy car models are becoming more and more popular. Besides, the energy-saving and NEV development roadmap has clarified the direction to promote hybrid vehicles, the sales of which is expected t overtake that of traditional fuel-power vehicles. Cui said this policy change is worthy of attention.
We also sorted out the TOP 10 models in August. Among the 10 models, there are two PHEV models, BYD Song PHEV and BYD Qin PHEV. The other eight models are all BEV models. BAIC EC series are the most popular in August, with 6,726 units sold last month.
